Paintings on Linen

Artists have painted on linen for centuries; some contemporary artists prefer linen to cotton. Upcycling by repurposing domestic linens handed down to me, tea towels, tablecloths, and napkins, gives me pleasure and satisfaction. I apply the linens whole or in pieces to a stretched canvas, sometimes over a painting that I want to transform. I enjoy the way the cloth takes or resists the paint, and the way the paint reveals or obscures the weave or texture of the fabric.
